Fáilte Isteach - Laois

Fáilte Isteach is a unique project which utilises the skills, talents and expertise of community-minded volunteers.

It harnesses their desire to contribute positively to society and make a difference by providing conversational English classes for new migrants.  The classes are taught by voluntary tutors from the local community and take place weekly the Respond Community Building, Mill Court, Portlaoise.

To date, approximately 35 students and over 40 volunteers have been participating in the project

This project is a partnership involving Fáilte Isteach (Third Age Foundation), Laois Partnership Co., Respond  Social Housing and the Adult Learning Centre, Laois Offaly ETB.

The national Failte Isteach programme was  set up by the Third Age Foundation in Summerhill, Co. Meath in 2006 when it was noticed that an increasing population of new migrants within the locality, were experiencing difficulties with daily tasks such as shopping, visiting the doctor, or helping children with homework due to a limited knowledge of English. Since then the programme has greatly expanded.
