Laois Volunteer Centre has been running a successful corporate volunteering programme since the autumn of 2023. This programme encourages businesses to offer volunteer experiences to their employees. Employers see it as a great way to raise their profile, give back to their communities and boost employee morale. It is also great fun and provides a strong sense of community spirit.
In addition, non for- profit organisations, who are registered with Laois Volunteer Centre, benefit from the work of the corporate volunteers.
Mountmellick Tidy Towns welcomed a group of corporate volunteers from Limerick in April 2024. The outing was organised as part of our corporate programme.
Seventeen young people representing a well- known financial institution spent the day painting the existing timber fence which runs along the banks of the Owenass River and the perimeter of the Mountmellick Development Association. Members of Mountmellick Community Employment Scheme and Mountmellick Angling Club also assisted with the completion of this project.
In May 2024, nineteen energetic and enthusiastic employees of Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise, donned gardening gloves and wellies to reduce Himalayan Balsam, an invasive plant species growing wild in Linear Park, Portlaoise. Laois Volunteer Centre organised this corporate project in conjunction with Portlaoise Tidy Towns and Laois County Council. This was the first time that the hotel undertook a corporate volunteer day for the staff and it proved extremely successful and gave the team a great boost to be able help the local community.
In September 2024, fifteen hard working employees of Fingelton White, Portlaoise, came prepared with gloves, cutters to weed the invasive Rhododendron growning wild in the Abbeyleix bog, Abbeyleix. Laois Volunteer Centre along with Abbeyleix Bog members Chris Uys, Una Haplin, Des Finnamore, Kathleen O Connor and Gary Luttrell organised this corprotae project. It was a successful fun day and a great way to help the environment in the beautiful destination of the Abbeyleix bog.
